Man, diagnosed as a heavy substance abuser.

He was admitted to a substance abuse centre. He has abused benzodiazepine, cannabis and heroin for 20 years. Although he has been undergoing regular treatment, he has still abused benzodiazepine and cannabis on a daily basis. He has a low self-esteem and varying levels of depression. He does not believe that he can get clean, which is why he is still affiliated as a care client. His treatment has primarily focused on stabilising him with methadone and improving his quality of life.

A sense-stimulating aid: Protac Ball Blanket

Observed effect:  The user has tried using the ball blanket for 17 days, and he has NOT smoked cannabis or ingested benzodiazepines in these 17 days, which is a huge change for him. He feel secure in the blanket and is able to quiet his thoughts. He has double the amount of sleep he gets at night from two to four hours at a time, which is huge in such a short time. He used to use cannabis and benzodiazepines to calm down a bit, which he got off of the black market. Now that this is no longer necessary, he spends his time on thinking positive thoughts about his son, for example. He quickly learned to take the blanket with him to the couch so that first thing in the evening he would start feeling calm and secure.

The user says: "I witnessed a robbery and had to testify, which was unpleasant because I knew the criminal. I felt really bad; my thoughts were racing and I was scared. At first I thought "drugs" of course, but then I remembered my blanket, went home and hid under it. Surprisingly it helped with my thoughts and fears, so luckily I didn't go out and use".
